With the PVC in chemical fabrics and films, 99% of manufacturing waste is reprocessed.
Plus, millions of pounds of post-consumer vinyl are recycled. More than 1.1 billion pounds of vinyl materials are recycled annually in the U.S. and Canada. This total includes 142 million pounds of post-consumer (non-packaging) vinyl materials.
The vinyl industry leads the way in recycling efforts for products like roofing and vinyl pool liners. Vinyl roofing membranes are recycled back into new roofing and other vinyl products, like flooring. Vinyl liner pools are constructed from recyclable materials such as steel and plastic and then subsequently lined with recyclable vinyl, contributing to the preservation of natural resources.
Beyond their recyclability, vinyl product manufacturers make products that are durable and resilient, which extends usefulness. This durability and resiliency makes for a long-lasting product, which reduces demand for replacement materials, lowers the burden on recycling systems, and requires fewer raw materials.
